Staying near Keswick for a week in May. Looking for something with a real summit feel but not dangerous, ideally under three hours round trip.

Catbells, every time. Short, a bit of easy scrambling that children love, and the Derwentwater views are the reward. Go up from Hawse End and come back along the lake shore. Avoid it in high wind — the ridge is exposed.

Latrigg is the gentler option if the weather turns — car park near the top and a huge view for very little effort.
